LUX : 180 The Strand Exhibition
I visited the LUX exhibition at the strand this week. Every show I’ve been to there has been amazing honestly. I was interested in installation art a lot at GCSE level because at one point I thought I’d end up there; I loved painting on 3D objects, always used to say I was bad at making things 3D but loved applying my art to 3D surfaces.
This particular piece caught my eye, a continuous 3D walk cycle where the character transforms and transfigures from form to form: lava to metal to steam to greenery to ash. The foley was completed by Simon Pyke, and adds an immense amount to the piece, scraping and scratching for heavy materials, tactile brushing for fur. I really loved this one, and I thought it’d look amazing in 2D too. I’d love to give a steam walk cycle a go, but I’m not sure I’m advanced enough yet. I’ll try it when I have some free time.
Free time, now that’s something I wish I had more of.
All I want right now is more time to focus on my university work, my personal work. i understand that I’ll have the summer to have a breather, but it hurts that I’m so consumed by work outside of university that I’m unable to fully commit myself in the way I want to.
It goes up and down every week, my mood I mean. It’s hard to keep track of but I just hope I am on the right track.
