Basics of Animation (Ball Bounces)

Basics of Animation (Ball Bounces)

Sessions this week are focusing on fundamental animation techniques. Beginning with the ball bounce! Having lived with a good friend of mine, a BA animation student, throughout the 3 years of her course I watched her do this right at the start of her degree! Feels strange to finally be doing it myself.

I got the hang of TV paint pretty quickly, but it’ll take some time to adjust to the drawing ‘feel’ as I’ve been so used to Procreate. I’ve attached a compilation of all of my ball bounce experiments below, as well as a very rough play-around animation of a bird(?).

Attempt 2 at Ping Pong Bounce – This time around I tried to focus more on the sharper, more vertical bounces, and those super fast bounces towards the end. This one was animated on Procreate at home.

Football Bounce – Not sure if I pushed the squash too far on this one but I feel like i’m itching to add some character to these balls!

Honestly, I just wanted to play around with some squashing and stretching and this blobby character helped me do that.
